Mail Me Art at The Framers Gallery – London

A while ago I saw a post on my Facebook page about Darren Di Lieto’s  Mail Me Art  project and decided to apply to be a part of it. Being a Brit by birth, I was excited to have the opportunity of showing my art in the UK! Envelopes by artists from all over the world will be exhibited at The Framers Gallery in London, UK,  from 30th July – 3rd August 2013. A book will be published with images of all the envelopes and will be available on Amazon. The envelopes are all for sale and proceeds will go to support the following charities: Water Aid, Teenage Cancer Trust and Animal Aid.

I finally finished my envelope and put it in the mail today. When I took it to the post office yesterday to get stamps the mail clerks were very interested in it, I know them well as I am there most days dropping off packages for our photography and art book business A&D Books. One clerk had a great time flexing it back and forth as she decided that it could go by regular mail. I held my breath figuring it would get a lot worse treatment on the way. It held up to the test well. So here’s waiting to see that it arrives safely!

Newark Open Doors 2012: Bushberg Project Submissions & Transmissions

On Saturday I drove into Newark with a little trepidation to drop my work off at 77 Market Street for the Newark Open Doors 2012: Bushberg Project  Submissions & Transmissions curated by Rupert Ravens. After navigating the one way system I eventually managed to find a parking place close to the gallery. A huge very raw space with a group of very friendly workmen but not too many signs that a huge art happening was about to happen. The workmen very kindly found Rupert Ravens for me, who put me at ease and I was able to deliver my work. Rupert assured me that the space would be totally transformed by Friday night, so after signing the paperwork, I left my work with him and headed home.

Today I received an e-mail from Rupert with a link to the page for theshow. I am now really excited about Friday and am a bit awed with the company I will be keeping. The huge space which on Saturday seemed impossible to fill by Friday I am quite sure is going to be quite a spectacle with installations by artists who have shown both nationally and internationally. Here is a sampling:

AK Airways will be there with a sculptural installation made from inflatable objects, their work has been presented at MOMA, underground raves and NASA…

Sculpture by Matt Stone of Brooklyn

Richard Wislocky, a West Orange Native and mega producer extraordinaire who has performed across the globe as well as “constructed a plethora of various multi-medium’ed” installations will also be represented.

Peter Schlangenbader a contemporary German Expressionist artist.

Beaded sculptures by A. Kimberlin Blackburn.

Newark born photographer Manuel Acevedo who has shown both nationally and internationally.

And many more…

Not to mention myself Ann Vollum!

Other South Orange artists inthe show include photographer Joy Yagid, installation artist Kate Dodd and painter and print maker Larry McKim who both teach at Columbia High School in Maplewood, NJ.

So don’t miss this show, it is sure to be fun.
