I will have a couple of paintings in this show.
I have spent the last few months working on a six panel wood accordion book for the Book Arts Roundtable annual show at the Pierro Gallery in South Orange, NJ. If anyone is in the area I hope you can come by, there are some wonderful artist books in this show.
This year as usual I will be part of the South Orange, Maplewood Studio Tour on Sunday June 3rd. The Preview / Post View exhibition at the Pierro Gallery is a great way to preview the artists on the tour and will help you to decide which artists to visit on the day. I look forward to seeing you at the opening, I hope you can make it. Please check out the new website for the tour for more valuable information. This year the tour is free of charge for the first time, so put it on your calendars!
Well after “The Blood Bath” comes “The Evil Eye…” Drawn in the same Moleskine… with my trusty Micron pen and of course some Indian ink!
On a different note, tonight is the opening of Booked 9 at the Pierro Gallery in South Orange, New Jersey. This is an annual show by the Book Arts Roundtable. This year’s show has many wonderful books in it by our talented members. Our guest artist Sherrill Kahn will be giving a talk at 8pm on exploring painting and mixed media techniques. The postcard for the show has an image by Chuck Miley and was photographed by Amelia Panico. But first, here is a taste of my latest accordion book: Bats Will Fly. I will be doing a post on the book soon, so this is just a teaser!

The annual book arts exhibition “Booked 7” is about to open at the Pierro Gallery in South Orange, NJ. I delivered my book “A Walk With Crocodile” this morning. This is always a much anticipated event. This year there will also be a silent auction on March 13th, to benefit the Hillside Food Bank of New Jersey and Artist Proof Studio in Johannesburg, South Africa. Kim Berman and Nhlanhla Xaba founded Artist Proof Studio (APS) in 1991. They train between 80 and 100 South Africans from economically disadvantaged backgrounds to become professional artists and well-rounded citizens who will make a difference in their communities and society as a whole. I am especially interested in this cause and will be donating a drawing to be auctioned off, as I was born in Africa, lived in South Africa, and still have family there.
This book project has been keeping me busy since May of 2009. Each day I have completed a part of a drawing. The book took on a life of its own, growing to forty-two pages, of fold outs, and peek throughs. I have been posting the progress of the book at “a beastie a day” . As the days went by the project became more elaborate and I realized that it was all about “Crocodile” ! I hope you enjoy it.
