I will have a couple of paintings in this show.
I have spent the last few months working on a six panel wood accordion book for the Book Arts Roundtable annual show at the Pierro Gallery in South Orange, NJ. If anyone is in the area I hope you can come by, there are some wonderful artist books in this show.
Well the big opening is tonight. I am excited to see how the huge, raw space in Newark has been transformed, not to mention being a part of this show. There will be live music by the Danny Petroni Sound Project, not to mention lots of great art. For directions and parking click here!
Hope to see you there. There will be a number of openings in Newark tonight so come on down and explore the art scene in Newark New Jersey.
On Saturday I drove into Newark with a little trepidation to drop my work off at 77 Market Street for the Newark Open Doors 2012: Bushberg Project Submissions & Transmissions curated by Rupert Ravens. After navigating the one way system I eventually managed to find a parking place close to the gallery. A huge very raw space with a group of very friendly workmen but not too many signs that a huge art happening was about to happen. The workmen very kindly found Rupert Ravens for me, who put me at ease and I was able to deliver my work. Rupert assured me that the space would be totally transformed by Friday night, so after signing the paperwork, I left my work with him and headed home.
Today I received an e-mail from Rupert with a link to the page for theshow. I am now really excited about Friday and am a bit awed with the company I will be keeping. The huge space which on Saturday seemed impossible to fill by Friday I am quite sure is going to be quite a spectacle with installations by artists who have shown both nationally and internationally. Here is a sampling:
AK Airways will be there with a sculptural installation made from inflatable objects, their work has been presented at MOMA, underground raves and NASA…
Sculpture by Matt Stone of Brooklyn
Richard Wislocky, a West Orange Native and mega producer extraordinaire who has performed across the globe as well as “constructed a plethora of various multi-medium’ed” installations will also be represented.
Peter Schlangenbader a contemporary German Expressionist artist.
Beaded sculptures by A. Kimberlin Blackburn.
Newark born photographer Manuel Acevedo who has shown both nationally and internationally.
And many more…
Not to mention myself Ann Vollum!
So don’t miss this show, it is sure to be fun.
I was recently commissioned to write out these two lovely poems. Kyle gave me an idea as to what he would like to have the borders decorated with and we went from there. When I do these pieces we discuss color, ideas for decorative features, whether the text is to be centered or not, and of course the script to be used. I then design the piece within the parameters given. A grid is worked out using the computer, and the piece may be written out several times to get the preferred layout before writing out the final piece. Any decorative flowers are researched and then painted in rough and applied to the layout before being painted on the final piece.
